Entry #145: The Debunking of Youth
Edna St. Vincent Millay, who won a Pulitzer Prize for her poetry in the 1920s, famously captured the romantic, desparate side to "Flaming Youth":
MY CANDLE burns at both ends;
It will not last the night;
But ah, my foes, and oh, my friends--
It gives a lovely light!
